So once I've unloaded my current set-up (keeping only some live rock) I'm going to set up a 30-40 gallons tank for Seahorses. I think there are several people here who keep Seahorses, so I'm just looking for some practical advice. I've done a lot of reading at seahorse.org, so I have some idea of what to do, but there's nothing like hearing from someone with experience.

Also, what advise on tanks would you give? I really like Oceanic's 40 gallon stretch hex; at least I like the look of it. Though I have no idea how much it would go for - probably very expensive (with a stand!) I want to have a sump and I doubt tanks that small come pre-drilled. So how much would having it drilled run me?

I'm also thinking that Erectus are probably the type I'd get. They appear to be the most common these days and on the hardier side. Would a 21'' high tank be good for them? How many could I have in a tank like that?

Thanks to all!

:)

Dmitry a 30 cube is the minimum sized tank recomended for keeping erectus so the 40 stretch hex will work great! I had a breeding pair of Reidis for awhile in my 30 cube. Lots of macro algea with alot of places for them to hitch and youll be all set :)

cb747> It looks like I'm going with an Oceanic 33+ cube. It measures 20.5" x 18.5" x 23.25" (l x w x h). So the height is even bigger. Do you think I can have 2 pairs in that?

I'm keeping all my branchy rock which the horses can use for hitching. And I'll be getting either some plants (I fear of being run over, though) or seafans/gorgonians/sponges. Something that doesn't need much light, though, because I won't be getting a light strong enough. Just your regular fluorescents.

By the way, I'd love to have black sand, but have been warned that it only looks great short term. Anybody have experience? How much waste would a few horses and pipefish put out? (For cleaning crew I'll get snails/fighting conch/skunk shrimp.)
