I have a hippo tang....have had him for 7 years. Recently put in a Sally Lightfoot. She joined in about 3 weeks ago. She is large, about 3/4 of what her adult size will be. All has been well and happy until tonight. The tang was on his side...I thought dying...then, when I nudged him...he flew through the tank like a missile and back to the back behind the live rock where he sleeps at night. This tang eats more than a human normally...but tonight will eat nothing. Ate like a horse last night. Will not come out of hiding now and is totally stressed. The crab is moving around like a missile as well, but she's gobbling up the flakes I tried to tempt the tang with...but she is double fast in moving. She also spent some time investigating the tang...thus my worry. This tang is large, fat and never had a sick day in his life...he was the size of my thumbnail when I bought him 7 years ago. Is it possible that the Sally would stress him enough to become ill. I did a water change yesterday, but did nothing out of the norm. Just a simple water change as I usually do. Something has disturbed him greatly. He is upright now, but only because his "sleeping" place does not give him room to lie on his side. Any opinions???

As some of you have read, I'm working on a 20-gallon with high nitrates, but if many of you think Sally is out to have Tang ala-mode, I won't hesitate to jerk her out of the tang tank and pitch her in the 20 and wish her luck....without acclimation...

Well, we can forget this post...no responses anyway, but at least no one wasted time on a problem that didn't exist. The tang evidently decided to play dead all day. Now he is swimming and eating and playing right along as he usually does....LOL

I have a doberman that can learn almost any trick in a day...it took that tang 7 years to learn how to play dead...lol
