Is 'The Reef Aquarium Vol. 1' by Julian Sprung worth the $85? How bout Vol. 2? Everything I hear is that they're AMAZING and complete resources for the hobby... which is something that sounds great. However, I'd consider myself Intermediate/Advanced in the hobby, and question how much I'll pick up from owning it? Is it something I'd definately want to own or possibly is it available at a library? What extra information will I learn not already available for free online? I don't mean to sound cheap, but I'm in an entry level position coming outa college with debts, loans, and rent up the wazzoo... so yeah, I'm cheap

I could search used, but we all know it still won't be free

I'd say that I'd rather use the money to buy Eric Borneman's and Antony Calfo's books rather that Sprungs. I believe that Sprungs was the best at the time it was written, but IMO it's no longer the "best".

Please don't flame, just my 2c. Feel free to express your opinions.

didn't charles have something to do with those books too? (delbeek/sprung)

i love both TRA I & II (and i'm darn tired of waiting for III <cough> ). $85 is a bit pricey for one of them tho ime, shop around.

calfo/fenner's and borneman's book both are also great imo. good/bad?, they're more recent so they'd probably have more updated/correct info (hobby's always changing tho) but TRA's are pretty info-extensive books in their own rights.

i wouldn't say they're better just because they're newer though anymore than TRA III will be the best when it finaly comes out (altho i have high hopes).

I love TRA. I think of them as text books rather than how to books. I refer to them constantly.

Yup, $85 is too much. I also like Eric Borneman's and Antony Calfo's books

I prefer Delbeek and Sprungs books over any other general reefing texts available. Hopefully Vol3 will be at MACNA!

Where is the $89 price coming from? I just checked Marine Depot and Vol1 is $59.
