Hey,

Someone told me today that If I place my plate coral on a flat rock (so it doesn't get knocked off) it will start reproducing?

I've never heard of it.. anyone????

News to me. I would think it would just crawl off.

I have seen them reproduce after being severly damaged or even "killed".

I doubt it is true. A very young plate coral is usually attached to a substrate (rock), and as it grow, it usually break off by wave or object hitting it. Rather or not it end up on soft sand or flat rock does not do anything to is reproductive cycle.
