Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm wanting to find out the species of frog fish I have, and information about how big it will get.

I want to find out what size fish I have to get if I dicided to put anouther fish in my tank (Its going to be mostly a coral tank).

Also will I be able to put anouther frog fish in the tank as long as its similar in size?

Here are some pictures: (pictures are somewhat large)

Hmm, I'm going to move this to the GRD to give it some more looks. I'm not sure what species of frog that is. If you want to keep one with it, you'll need a fish at least twice its size.

Thanks!

Thats what I have heard that you can only keep it with fish that are bigger then it. Thats why im trying to find out how big it will get so I can find out the size fish i will need.

Thanks, I got him from a local fish store.
They would probably know what kind of frog fish he is, but i just forgot to ask when I bought him and haven't had a chance to go back and ask.

Im setting up an "aggressive only" tank and after seeing him Im gonna try to find one around here. Im assuming he eats small fish and shrimp, stuff like that?

I have heard he will try to eat any fish and shrimp that aren't bigger then himself. After seeing him open his mouth I believe it. He has already eat 1 of my damsels (maybe 2 i can't find one of the other ones.) I new there was a good chance the damsels would be eaten though.

There is a compatiblity chart here, but from what I have heard the fish still need to be bigger then your frog fish.
http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/comp ... _chart.cfm

They are sapposed to be picky eaters, that need to be trained to take frozen shrimp on a stick, but I have had him less then a week, and already gotten him to take the frozen shrimp 2 out of 2 feeding tries Some other options are... I was able to feed him fresh water ghost shrimp once and he seems to like damels(but that can get expensicve). I have been told that some type of feeder fish (not sure there name) can sometimes have diseases/parasites that would be bad for the frog fish, so I will probably never feed him those.

Feeding damsels is asking for trouble with disease, parasites...etc. so good thing he's eating frozen. Not sure if LA's compatibility chart mentions this but puffers, angels, triggers, and other "peckers" will harass the junk out of a frogfish. Best tankmates are lionfish, big eels, or maybe just give it its own tank.

I used to have a 30 gallon with absolutely nothing in it but sand and a big frogfish. Looked really cool.

Wont damsels show signs of parasites and disease though?
I thought the main problem with feeder fish is that they don't show signs of some problems that would show up in a fish that ate them?

Just wondering if I should take the rest of my damsels out before they the frog fish eats them?

Thanks for the advice.

I think the problem is the volume of fish in and out of the tank. If you quarantined all feeders or damsels before sending them to their doom then you would have less chance of trouble.

A great food for them is frozen silversides. They are saltwater feeder fish that come frozen in a pack. Just defrost one and wiggle it in front of the frogfish... it will take it. :)

Hi,

First post to the board. Have been keeping frogfish for quite a few years. I believe you're right regarding Lophiocharon lithinostomus. Probably one of the most voracious Antennariids out there. The one in our shop ate a Rhinopias that was bigger than the frogfish. Frogfish is still alive today. She ejected an egg sac a few weeks ago. No male so ... no dice. This Genus attaches the eggs to the males body.
