I am considering re-plumbing my setup with a new sump so I can actually get into the sump to clean it out. I brilliantly added a refugium taller than (but only 2/3 the length of) my sump in front of the sump. I can get to the necessities but it is not easy.

I figure that I can pre-glue all of the PVC sections but there wll still be 3 connections (2 overflows and one return) that need to be glued to get everything hooked back into the tank. I plan on using unions at those connections but am wondering how long I should keep the tank offline to prevent any issues caused by glue/primer fumes from becoming an issue.

thanks,
- Steve

If you could I would recommend you pre glue as much as possible and let it cure for a day. But that said I have added new plumbing immediately with no ill effects. Of course try to make sure none of the glue actually gets inside the pipes.

Hey Steve,
24 hours is the standard duration to fully cure the cement, but it becomes stiff 2-3 hours in IME. The longer you can wait, the better the seal. I've actually seen LFS glue and run their tanks in a span of minutes, but I personally wouldn't do it.
