If we ever sell our house and move into the new one i will be upgrading my bloody heavy mag ballasts and getting some electronic ones.

question is which ones and how good are they, is there a better make

so far after a 2 minute search ive found:
IceCap Electronic 400 Watt Metal Halide Ballast: $174.95
E-Ballast 400watt w/plug: $179.95
Reef Fanatic 400W Electronic Halide Ballast only $149.95

Now i've heard good reports about the icecap and e-ballast but nothing on the reef fanatic although i do have some of there stuff that i purchased before they went trade wholesale only and i've never had a problem with them.

It's just i have heard a few horror stories about electronic ballasts and if i'm buying 3 of them i don't want to have to..........well you get the idea.

Any info or help on this greatly appreciated

In addition to the ones you listed, EVC also has an electronic ballast, tested in www.advancedaquarist.com IIRC. After talking to some folks who use one or more of these ballasts, I've decided to go with Icecaps. They all seem fairly good, although you may need a power line filter to prevent interference with other gear, but I decided to go with Icecap myself because of my experience with their service. I've also used their 150W MH e-ballast without any incidence.

Yah I like the EVC ones, they seem to have a very good bang for your buck type deal at.. umm one of the dealers that sells them, 250w DE ballast, ReefOpticsIII, bulb all for about $230 or so.. not a bad deal.

Of course I dont have any personal experience with them, I still got the good ol' magnetic ballasts :)
