the skimmer saga continues....

welp,

I have done some homework... i was visiting the "other Board" and found a few peeps that are using the reefmania skimmers... they love them.

but i found a few peeps using the ER recirc also... they love theirs....

and Friggin LEN got me thinking of the cadillac of skimmers.. (DELTEC) was looking at an AP701!!!

issue 1. the reefmania jobber seems to be the most bang for the buck. a skimmer rated at 250G strong for $650. the comparable ER is $1k and the deltec is $1100.

Issue 2. is $400 worth the brand name? I am a ER guy by all means...

issue 3. Why does Len like the most expensive things.. him and louey have a conspiracy going on to empty all of our bank accounts and savings! 8O

anyone else have any suggestions....

how about the ASM recircs....? anyone got one of those...

I really like my Euro-Reef because it is simple. Not much to it.

I see all the insane skimmers with "Dual Beckette Down Draft Venturi Counter Current Air Stone Super Ultra Skimmer". Cool to look at and marvel the creativity but they are so expensive and complicated.

If I was going to get a bigger skimmer, it would have to be a Euro-Reef or an ASM. Their design is based on simplicity and simple things work the best in most cases.

Economy skimmers are good...go for an ASM. If you want a Porsche...go for the Euro-Reef.

Based on their design of simplicity, they should benchmark the same, but you will pay more for a Porsche.

I was thinking instead of the (asm - chevy, or porsche - Euro-reef) i would get an Audi ! 8) . The reef mania is based on ER's has two recirc pumps... I have two ER needlewhell impellers... just swap them out with the SEDRA copies.. and bamo- insta whizz bang skimmer....

H&S skimmers are probably worth a look too. They appear to be very well built.

I hear their are leak problem associated with the recirm mod on the ASM's.

i am leaning hard on that DSG shifiting on the Audi.... but a friend told me today to ask tgeorge at geosreef.com to have a look at my little project...

what about tunze doc skimmers?
i should be getting one soon ( see if i have $$ left over after xmas shopping)

i personaly think that downdraft skimmers are the simplest ones out there.
nothing to clog or anything.

i was thinking the same. but i am restricted by space in the sump/ or the little area in my stand... I wanted to build a tru in-wall setup but my wife wouldn't give me a room to do it....

I told her when i add on to the house that she is SOL! the 450g MEGA LOUEY is goin in there!!!!

i am gonna pull the pin and order the reefmania jobber. i think i am gonna pic up a media reactor too.

Nope, ER and All Seas were never the same company. I can tell you this, anyone who is using a needlewheel based Sedra skimmer is getting their pump from All Seas. They have a an exclusive contract with Sedra for the needlewheels.

The recirced ASM are pretty amazing. We do them all the time.

Hey, did you look at Barre Aquatics? I just got one from them and its excellent. He builds stuff on a schedule though, so you have to check when he is building skimmers again.
