i've been checking out these tanks at www.glasscages.com. I can't decide if I should go glass or acrylic. I wanna set up a 90gal with a 30gal sump. Check out this site and give me your opinions. glass or acrylic? They seem pretty cheap. But hen again what do I know.

They're very cheap. I've read a lot of complaints about them on other boards. You'll get mixed reviews from here. Their work now doesn't seem to be as sloppy as it was before.

The scratches I got in my acrylic tank drove me nuts, but there are kits available that allow you to polish them out underwater.

With that said, my new tank is glass.

Hmmm, well I don't know about the quality of these.

My thought is that if you're going to put a bunch of expensive livestock into a glass box, spend the extra $450 and get a reputable brand over some second-tier manufacturer. It has to last a LOOOOONG time...

Glass aquariums are not held together by those silicone beads in the corners--the bulk of the joint strength actually comes from the millimeter or so of silicone that sits between the two pieces of glass. Precision is key here. If one piece of glass is not cut exactly right, or the joint is not perfectly square, or there is not consistent thickness in the silicone in the joint, or the joint surfaces are not properly cleaned and prepped--you get a weak joint.

If you're going glass, you want to make sure that the manufacturing process is controlled and proven. I wouldn't look for the cheapest box. I'd look for a box that is manufactured to standards that can be repeated, and make sure that quality is the rule, and not the exception.

That's my $0.02, FWIW.

For a 90 I would just go all-glass or oceanic. I would consider a custom maker for an odd size, but can't imagine why someone would want to on a standard size like a 90.

IMO if you are looking for something custom, with odd sizes or holes drilled or euro top go with somone like GlassCages.com, otherwise pick one of the larger manufacurors like Oceanic or All Glass for standard sizes.
By the way I do own a custom made tank from GlassCages.com in acrylic and the workmanship looks fine to me.

if glass is superior then why is it cheaper? ...

Many things affect price, and right now, the material cost is the reason that acrylic is more expensive than glass. Other factors that affect price are supply/demand, markup, logistic, labor/machinability, and others. But for regular tank, they are not affecting the price between glass / acrylic as much as material. Try to get a glass tank with specialty glass, such as Starphire, and you will see that it is not cheaper than acrylic.
