my tank has been up since June now. just recently my sand has gotten really brown. i know this usually happens when you are just starting out but like i said it has been up for quite some time now. any ideas? all my fish are doing really well though so I doubt it's effecting them. any thoughts?

Hey Mike, either its diatoms or dinoflagellates. Make sure you're keeping up with your water change routine. Your RO cartridge might also need changing. Aging lights is another culprit.

Some fighting or queen conches will help move the sandbed around.

It wouldn't hurt to try changing lights to see if that nets a positive change. If it doesn't, you can always go back to the old lights and have the new lights on hand.

Not for nothing, but that looks like a normal 6 month old aquarium to me. Why make changes? Just hang in there and keep up your husbandry and it will fade on it's own.

Maybe add a few sifters/snails, but lights? Not sure that is going to help anything at this point.

Just my $.02 :D :D :D
