Hi all,

Background:
In my main tank, I'm moving away from a carnivore/predator tank and switching over to a more peaceful tank now. After trading in my last predator (snowflake eel) for store credit, I picked up some additional small pieces of live rock and a FireFish. So the tank is pretty bare right now with the FireFish and only 4 hold-overs from my predator tank: A Serpent Star, a small cube Boxfish, an Astrea Snail, and a Bumble-bee Snail.

I would like to add a Fire Shrimp to the tank.

What are the odds of the Fire Shrimp harming any of the other inhabitants? Such as the FireFish when he's sleeping in the rock at night (he's out during the day)?

Also, unrelated, has anyone used http://www.coralreeffarm.com ? Their web site looks very nice. If their fish look like their web site, I might start ordering from them.

Thanks,

Matt

I'll assume the fire shrimp you mean is also called a blood shrimp - Lysmata debelius (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod ... pCatId=697). If so, no problem. They're cleaner shrimp and won't harm any fish that are healthy (or have bugs).

If they're tearing pieces out of the fish, that generally means the fish is dead or moments from it.

I've got 3 of them with 3 (at one point) firefish. The firefish aren't inclined to let themselves be cleaned but don't conflict with the shrimp at all.

I would be more concerned with the star snagging small fish (if large) and the box fish producing a toxin (if scared) and wiping out the tank. I had a firefish and blood shrimp togeather happily. Got rid of the firefish because he would always dive for the reef when I came up to the tank. It freaked everyone in the tank out and made them scared of me too. I have since heard they don't do that in pairs. Don't know that from experience, though.
