How often do you empty your protein skimmer collection cup?

I thought it might be usefull to try and guage how many times a week we empty our collection cups. Is 2 times a day too much? Is going 3 or 4 days too long?

There has to be a point, I would think, that you are either not using the skimmer to it's full potential, vs. overskimming and just creating more work for ourselves.

I empty mine about once a day right now, since it is new on the tank, and I am trying to skim out all I can asap.

Thoughts?

I have it drained to a 5 gal water jug, and the last time I clean it was about a year ago.

Every other day or so. I have a CPR Bakpak on a 46 gallon.



Of course my first response to "how often do you empty your collection cup?"......when it is full. lol

Twice a week usually. I take the whole skimmer apart one a month or two when the Air intake gets clogged and the skimmer looks like its not functioning.

Yes! Same here. I also put some RO/DI water in the venturi daily.

I am now on a once every 2 days cycle with mine or so. Nitrates are almost nil, in the 10-15 range, down from around 30-40.

The only thing I hate, is having to turn it off every time I feed. When I start it back up, it takes about 30 min. for it to "reset" itself. I end up having to partially close the venturi up a bit upon restart, and open it as time goes on.
