Firefish with Six Linewrasse???

I don't want to hijack an ongoing thread so I wanted to post this as a seperate topic.

I have a purple firefish in my 29g reef and just added a small (under 2") six line wrasse as a last fish to complete my fish list.
I never heard of a problem with six lines so I added him then read in another post that as six line will tear up a firefish?

I have only had mine for about 2 days but the six line doesn't act aggresive to any of the other tank mates.

Did I make a mistake or is there a chance these two can coexist in my reef?

Time will tell, but six lines are notoriously aggressive once they settle in. You may be okay because you added the sixline after the firefish, but I'd still keep my eye on the two.

i had a 6 line it all most killed my fier fish. i had to tear down my tank to get him out

on the other side i added two fire fish to a 125 with a 2 year + resident six line with no problems. . . what can't fish use standards!?!!

I'll keep an eye out. I will not be tearing my reef apart trying to get at him so I will hope all goes well. There are no other fish in the tank competing for his pods so maybe he will be happy just being with a few friends...lol

My concern is with the loading of the tank. by most standards I am exceptionally stocked on fish. 5 in a 29g reef seems to look good so thats where i'm at.

1 coral beauty
1 firefish
1 royal gramma
1 six line
2 fireshrimp
1 brittle star
10 turbo snails
5 blue leg hermits

So far, all is going well...so we'll see

I had the same experiance w/ different fish. I had no idea that bi-colored blenny had a taste for anything other than algae...

untill he started to eat my acro :evil:

FWIW I got talked out of a six line and got a lyretail anthias...my firefish lasted a week, and it was doing great with two damsels. Damn anthias ripped his lower jaw off. So, from an agression standpoint, I think the six line is akin to the anthias.

this is a bit off topic but it is a testament to just how tough fire fish can be (though having your lower jaw ripped off does seem to do them in. . .) . i bought a pair a 8 months ago and put them in my 125 gallon reef. they did very well and the other fish seemed to be leaving them alone. a week later i noticed that one of the fire fish was missing. i figured he had died over night and consumed by any number of reef scavengers. well 5 weeks later i was pouring kalk down my overflow and saw a fire fish jump over my arm. i was suprised but figured i had just scared the little guy with all the noise. later that day i walked by the tank and noticed there were TWO fire fish in the tank again! amazing! that fire fish must have been living in the overflow for 5 weeks! He managed to jump out when I poured kalk into the overflow. not only did the little guy survive 5 weeks without any direct feedings but he survived all the environmental hazards of that environment (i always use that particular overflow for dosing chemicals). i'm sure that water had to be pretty caustic at times especially when adding calcium and kalkwasser! its been two months since and they are both doing well. i'm just glad for the covered aquarium!

FWIW,

I have in my 72 gallon: 1 female lyretail anthias, 1 sixline wrasse, 1 firefish and 3 green chromis.

All are getting along excellent. The anthias was 1st in, then the 3 chromis and lastly the firefish and sixline went in at the same time. It's been at least two months now since last fish added w/ no issues. The most aggression I see is the chromis displaying at each other once in a while.

I feed freeze dried cyclopeeze 3 times a day and once in a while substitute some other goody for cyclopeeze. My acros all love the cyclopeeze feedings as well... :wink:

Maybe I am going to be ok. No aggresion has been displayed so far. I am thinking that since the six line went in last, the other fish allready had there territories set so no fights insued by the six line since he didn't have a territory. The six line just grazes around all day and doesn't pay any attention to anyone. If any thing, I have seen my coral beauty dart toward the others if they get close to his favorite hang out. but never a fight or chase incident yet....Time will tell but I hope since the six line was last in, maybe this explains the lack of aggression.
