I'm looking for a larger version of the icecap far, or for a controller that I can plug a normal fan into. I would like the fan to be on a low setting all the time and to push more air when the tank gets to a certain temp.

Any ideas?

Yeah, the sump runs on a ranco like that. For the new hood (a faux in wall tank) I would like it to be on all the time but speed up when needed.

I can't think of anything that fits that exact description, but how about two smaller fans? One that runs all the time and one that kicks on/off with your temp controller...

Wazzel is right.

You may want to check out some computer case people. They have some nice blower fan that is much, much powerful than the regular muffin fan we used in the hobby.

If your visiting computers stores consider the iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans by SilentX. There 120mm fan has a dBA of 14 at most, compared to say a range of 25 to 40 for other fans.

That is to say it's about 1/2 as loud of most fans on their lowest speed setting! Be sure to ask for SlientX by name, the generic copies are nearly as good:

I ment full size fans. :)
I use clip ons that are 6 1/2" blade diameter with no problems.
They already have adjustable speeds manualy, so no tempsensors needed. The lowest setting using them as pusher and puller should be all you need to keep it stable.

Ah!

The manual speed adjustment is exactly what I am trying to do without. :D

That might work...though I would have to put another hole in the side of the house!

Anyone know anything about this thing?

Got it. Its perfect, except its not perfect. It speeds the fan up at cooler temps instead of at hight temps. Grrr. Its solid state, so I have no idea how to rewire it. Grrr. Anyone have any ideas?

I have an email into the sellers to see if they have the version I want.

1) How do you wire these things up? After all, I'm don't want to put it in my computer. ( DC adapter? )

2)Did you mean to say, Generic Copies aren't nearly as good?

You could always get an older AT power supply and mount it in your stand. I've seen variable speed computer fans that are controlled by a wired on sensor instead of the third yellow wire. I beleive that Vantec still makes these in 80mm, 92mm and 120mm. I actually have one in my wife's computer that is sitting on the GPU heatsink, when the GPU gets hot, the fan speeds up. I think that this is what you're looking for. Oh, and by the way, you could always hook it (or more) up to a AC/DC converter. If you need more details, please let me know.

What do you think total cost would be?
