Any Idea why my brain coral would be thriving (growing rapidly and becoming convex) on one half and turning pale and becoming concave on the other?

I dont have test for mg or phosphate yet

trido, does that side receive more lights, or is it closer to a neighboring coral? It actually doesn't look too bad (a nice, beautiful, healthy specimen from what I can see).

That side is not near any other corals but does recieve more direct light. I am wondereing if it is getting too much light. I have read the they like med. to high lighting and medium water flow. Im wondering if the extra wattage has pissed it off. I know it looks healthy, but it is seemingly rapidly losing its luster and becoming translucent. The back side appears much happier than the front. Maybe turn it around and see? Maybe im being paranoid. But better safe than have a sick or dead coral. Thanks for the input.

There's your answer doctor doolittle! LOL!!
Have to break it in with the new lights.
You should know that man I have read some of your past post's! LOL!
But seriously, Trachyphyllia dont require large amounts of light at all to thrive.
Move it to the sand bed or further down and it should regain it color to match the other side. Most of your more brightly colored Trachyphyllia like red, purple, and neon green's are from pc tanks or kept in partial shade if kept in MH or high wattage VHO tanks.
Good water quality and feedings are what they thrive on best.

Agree with the intensity change with regards to the light.
Your parameters are off a hair as well. There should be no ammonia, and most coral do not like high alk. Your pH seems a tad high, and the temp a tad too low, but both are within acceptable limits.
I dont think those factors are affecting the coral, though (or maybe they are?) I think the light change was most likely the culprit.

Thanks... That is about what i figured on all of the above. I am just a noob and all of the reading in the world doesnt beat experience. Thankfully you are willing to take the time to teach me with yours.
With 18 years of freshwater behind me you'd think i'd know it all but SW is a completely different side of the world. Again TY!!
