I have a plate coral that only opening up half way. This occured after an algae build up on the CC on the bottom of the tank. I clean the bottom once a week but when on vacation and came back to a not so clean tank. Since then the coral hasnt been doing so well. It seems now to be releasing a slime. Can someone please give me suggsestions on what I can do.

I would wait. Sometimes they slime up periodically, and there is nothing wrong with it. How is the water parameter? Any fish missing or dead inverts?

Blow it off with a turkey baster and check your water chemistry. Mine only slimes up when annoyed.

what kind of plate coral? i have bad luck with the long tentacle kind, they seem to get disease much more easily. the short tentacle fungia are very hardy and they are one of my favorite coral. that is my name after all :)

That's right. Are you referring to fungia or turbinaria?
