How to get a CBS out...

Yesterday I got my female mandarin from the QT to the display. Within minutes, my CBS was holding her firmly in one if its claws while retreating to chew on her despite her efforts to get away. I managed to get her out of the claw, apparently without injury, but now I want the CBS out. He knows that and disagrees. Any ideas on how to do that without getting all the rocks out?

Mmm fish trap? Cut the top off a 2 liter bottle,reverse the top and put it back inside the bottle, spot glue it. Drop a piece of shrimp in the bottle and place it near his nesting spot. He crawls in but cant crawl out.

These shrimp should come with a warning:


"May eat fish if they can, and can attack aquarist while performing maintenance duties"


I have only kept one, never to do so again. Left a nice little scar on my forearm from the experience. The traps might work, I gave up and did something completely different. Placed a goldfish bowl in my 75, put all the live rock in there (didn't have that much at the time, still enough to fill the bowl) so it wouldn't have to be removed, and the chase was on. 45 minutes of swearing fits of rage later, I finally caught him. He recieved an etrip back to the LFS, and was placed in an aggressive display tank, along with a nasty crab and a few others. Apparently he was sold 2 days later to a newbie who liked mean looking things.

Coral Banded Shrimp


Not a skunk cleaner shrimp, which are usually harmless (although a starving one could become aggressive).

Try this. take some fhishing line and tie off a piece of frozen mysis or krill to it to entice him out then place the line inside the net. ( after letting himk see/smell whats on the line ofcourse, then place it inside the net and wait for him to climb in.)

I tried the trick with the shrimp in the net a lot last night. I guess that after being chased by that big green net all day, he wasn't getting anywhere near it.

However, I caught it this morning: I chased it all over the tank and at some point it made the mistake to try to climb the glass - that was it for him - he's now at the LFS! I can sleep well at night now.

I think he was not small enough to get into the bottle. Besides I was afraid that one of my cleaners will get in there first, then become a meal for the CBS. He was trying to get the cleaners for the longest time. It's just their ability to swim that saved their tail (but not their antennae).

The nevermind was something I edited after realising someone with...not so much common sense may have actually tried.

Ya a full grown Coral shrimp may have been too big to go in the bottle.
