Has anyone used the Watts wp 5-50 (five stage- fifty gallons per day) Ro unit? Do all RO units take out phosphates or does it say. This model did not say phosphates but it did say nitrites and nitrates. It is going for $240. ALso, is there a difference bewteen RO and RO/DI? Any help/advice appreciated, I'm getting ready to setup my 120 SPS (pics soon) and I want a really good Ro unit.

I used a Watts unit, (25gpd) it was on clearance at Lowes a couple years back, it should be fine. What you most like have is a residential drinking water unit. It'll have 1 sediment filter, 2 carbon filters, the RO Membrane and then another carbon unit to add taste back to the water.

RO units will get 90-95% of the junk out that you really want out, a DI will give you the last bit of cleanliness. You can always add on a DI resin canister inline with the system, add it right after the RO Membrane, and have that output be your water don't use the 3rd carbon block.

Now $240 is quite pricy for an RO unit, maybe that's due to store markup. You can find many on ebay and the like in the $100 range, and that's with a DI unit hooked on!

I got one of my ROs from Costco, and it is much cheaper than $240. You need to shop around, and yes, Watts is fine.

Spectrapure got very good service, and they really know their technical stuffs, not the salesman type in some other company. However, their price can be slightly higher, esp. if you do shop around.

Is a four stage spectrapure RO/DI unit a high quality unit?

As far as I'm concerned, there are no better units than Spectrapure. They are one of the few companies selling this type of equipment that are actually experts in water purification and not simply resellers of generic products.

Allright I'm sold! Spectrapure it is. Now for the rest of my equipment purchases all at a price I can't really afford... :D 8O
