I have a 9 year old reef that the mushrooms are taking over. I have been removing the larger rocks with them on there. But they have been breaking off and I have singles all over the tank. Does any one know how to kill the shrooms with out removing all the rock? The are attached to every thing in the tank. other corals the back wall.
I have been selling them back to the LFS but they are to spread out to control.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Hey Jeff, I, and many others, have experienced this problem. I tried killing them one by one with 50% NaOH (lye) but they just kept popping back faster then I could inject them. You will have to try and luck out with a butterflyfish IMO. Several species will likely eat shrooms, including Chaetodon falcula, C.ulietensis, and C.lunula. But as you know, they will eat other inverts too, so the viability of this method depends on how many other corals you have and whether you can remove them to another tank during the eradication process.
