Just curious what our members are into nowadays. Feel free do delve into it a bit more if you like. Especially if you've chosen 'Other' :D

I would have picked "other" except it's not on the poll choices 8O

I think a lot of folks are gradually beginning to move away from "fruit stand" tanks, cramming in as many species as possible. Me, with the new tank I intend to keep both softies and SPS - but only a handful of species, allowing them to each colonize large parts of the tank.

I see that trend, too. Not that the fruit stand look is all that bad, but I'm seeing more tanks with creative and spacious rockwork. Keeping separate sections makes keeping a mixed reef a lot easier.

I vote mixed tank. Not many fish. Lots of coral, both LPS and SPS. I don't have any SPS yet.

My tank is dry. It is planned to be an SPS/LPS mix with one BTA. No softies, polyps of 'shrooms.

Mixed reef with mostly soft and LPS corals. We keep a few fish as well. We had a tank with SPS corals totally wiped out by RTN a few years ago and I have not tried to keep them since.

Too many variations you didn't include, even if I was able to pick one, which I can't. Your poll to me sounds like asking what kind of pizza I like, cheese or cheese and olives?

My next two tanks when I own a house again will be a temperate marine tidepool system, then a 350 gallon freshwater (or maybe grouper) tank. 8)

So many choices, so little space, and DEFINITELY not enough money!
I'm done with huge reefs, friggen money pits.

Try it anyway!!! :P
Don't forget - Reef with mostly fish, fish with mostly corals, Gourami's with tall plants, Gouramis with short plants and a few tall plants, SPS with 5 mushrooms and a Hawkfish, African mbuna species with lotsa big dead rock...

That should get you started.

Mine is mostly SPS, with a couple of LPS, a couple of chalice, a T. Gigas, a T. Derasa and 11 fish. Will be 12 fish as soon as I pick up my new Sohal from my LFS. :D

I've always tended to do species only tanks with fish.
I've never like the mix and match reefs though in nanos I'll mix different species of corals.

:D I have seen some hodge podge-style reef tanks that are simply stunning, and have also coveted a region specific biotope setup a friend has setup. Truthfully, I like just about all coral setups EXCEPT the old style wall setup. That's boooooring to me.

I don't care too much for FO tanks, unless it has some special touch like an all predator setup. Now I love to do a nice species tank like Ms. Ighs' new temporate seahorse setup, of course that's a horse of a different color.

Mine tastes mostly salty with a hint of calcium. I think it is a 2006 which is a pretty good year for salt. Little heady, but not overpowering.

I have a definite mixed reef. I am your steroetypical fruit stand reef guy. I have lots of corals in my 46 but I am mainly using it as a grow out tank for frags to seed a larger tank in a few months. I bought alot of frags for a couple of reasons. Mainly I liked them lol, but also I figured since it was my first real shot at long term sps, I tried to take into account a few losses for whatever reason. Then I only lost one. So now I have alot, but I am selling some this weekend at our meeting in atlanta to free up some space. 53 individual corals of 39 varieties in a 46 gallon BF might be a bit overboard lol. But I like them soooo much. I need a bigger tank.

Len's tank is a 20" radio controlled M1 A1 Abrahams Main battle tank model.......

My tank is a work in progress- only 8 moths old, but it started as a FOWLR (intended) and now has some LPS and 3 anenomes in it. I will probably go the fruitstand route as I intend building another predator and crayfish specific tank when my bank account recovers from this one....

I had not previously considered this, but now that it's been brought up, I have to wonder how much heat the remote controlled engine puts into the tank.
