Has anyone ordered a glass or acrylic tank from aquariums for you in Jersey?

Got a quote from them on a 120 gallon starfire front and right panel reef ready and the price is $1,055. They told me that they construct out of 3/4" glass instead of the 1/2" glass.

For glass cages the same tank would be $615.

Any opinions or thoughts out there?

Also thinking of acrylic. Certainly much lighter to move but the scratches would drive me crazy.

If you go glass-it has to be Starfire or don't do it. The green tint in regular glass will just kill the beauty of the inhabitants especially you are talking about 1/2" to 3/4". I had a 150 from my customer traded it in while I have an 90 acrylics on top of it. You want to smash the glass one right the way when the two were next to each other.

I have been looking into having a custom tank built as well. In addition to contacting Glass Cages, I also have gotten or asked for quotes from the following companies. If anybody knows of any others, let me know.

a friend of mine had a custom tank made by aquariums for you and had wonderful things to say about them.

no personal experience with glass cages but i've heard both positive AND negative about them. Just from what i've heard about the two companies, I am going to guess and say the build quality will be much better w/ an Aquariums 4 you tank. But you probably will never find anyone that will build you one as cheap as Glass Cages.

I been told (few times by different tank places) the Starphire branded glass does not come in 3/4", double check on the brand and thickness they are quoting you. Glass cages does not use starphire, they use low iron glass and it is not as clear.

Is this going in-wall or free standing? I don't think you'll need a 3/4" thick glass for a 120g tank unless you are going braceless or super tall.

Glass cages is terrible. there customers service sucks. The seams on the tanks I've seen are not impressive at all. It's true there tanks are less expensive, but you get what you pay for!!!!!!!!!!

tank

i bought my tank from a member. it was new they do have crappy sealant line's. not the prettiest tank. not the greatest viewing quality with reg glass and i got 3\8 glass side's with 1\2 bottom euro bracing and strap. but once again their price's are hard to beat. from what i have seen it's a take it or leave it company. http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/tank-threads/22850-my-new-62-a.html
here's mine

my glass cages low iron 120 is about 2 years old and it's messed up.
these were some tough knocks it took, coraline encrusted marina board scratched the inside front, then the FDNY dinged the outside front.
I'd still go with glass, even though I can't fix the scratches in the glass, if it was acrylic I would have to empty the tank to fix it.

Thanks everyone. Can't justify spending nearly $1,200 for a tank from www.aquariumsforyou.com. The price I listed earlier did not include an overflow.

I know they do nice work . I'm sure that miraclesaquarium is just as expensive.

Pierce: Is that where you got your tanks from-Miracles Aquarium in Canada?
