i have a asm skimmer. i clean my collection cup every other week and i clean my pump every year but i have never cleaned the inside of my skimmer body. do you clean your skimmer body? is there a reason to and how often should i do it if it is recommended?

I cleaned mine once a month. As to why, erm well because it needed cleaning :lol:

I cleaned mine once since I bought it but just because I had nothing else better to do. :lol: I really don't see why it would need to be cleaned, though. It does grow some sponge in there because it's dark and high flow but nothing to be worried about, in my opinion. I could be wrong, though. :wink:

This is interesting. I've only been in the skimmer game for a year, and didn't know cleaning out the body was a part of routine maintenance. I thought the build up on the inner wall helped make it skim better :?

I look at the buildup on the skimmer housing and I think it would cut down on performance bu not making it smooth for the bubbles to rise to foam.

I keep mine clean - one thing gets dirty, then another, then another.
Best to stay on top of things.

every 3 months , i swap out my return pump and skimmer pump, i have 2 of each, run them in 50/50 water/ vinegar for 5 to 6 hours, same for my maxijet 1200s and tunze 6060s, at this point i put the skimmer in the tub and give it a scrubbbing in and out.............i had a rpoblem with my skimmer overflowing , turned out it was a bad sedra................its a euroreef cs6-3 btw with 50mg/hr ozone
