The question I have right now is if that a AquaZone Ozone Generator w/Controller, 200 mg/hr be necessary or not when keeping SPS corals? That how many who use this and for how long? What litte I do know is that this type of equipement would enhance the skimmer performance.

old man.
i have heard a rumor that ozone and skimming, while super effective
for fish only tanks, might not be the best idea on an SPS tank.

imagine the disaster that could take place tank wide if the ozone
generator messes up?

the best bet is to get a high quality skimmer. they do not seem to need
ozone to kick some serious butt.

so why again should you use ozone in an SPS tank? i dont know of one.

is it necessary for SPS corals? Absolute not.

Some might even question the benefits of ozone either.

However some tanks I have seen running ozone do appear to be absolutely crystal clear, now whether or not that is the ozone or they are just that much better than I at maintanence I don't know.

I do have one of those cheap chinese made ones (Enalay?), haven't had the time to hook it up because 1) need orp controller, 2) I'm not so sure I want to run this through my skimmer because you need to have the output run over carbon to pull out any "nasties" and I'm not quite sure I can macgyver a solution for my current setup.

Some time after I post this question that I learned myself that besides the good effects it have, there be many drawbacks as well. The skimmer that is going on the 240 cost about $1,000. So with that knowing that even I not the money to do things as fast as I like, I still however buy the best I can for these tanks. A total cost with both reef tanks right now stands at around $32,000 and im not done yet.

I know that water currents is the main ticket while keeping SPS corals and in the sumps I will have that miracle mud. So for now, im looking into all possible angles here to do all the best in these tanks setup.

Right now, the two larger jobs to do are the changing of the lighting on both tanks and the sump on the 240 and after, the rest of what needs doing are considered as small jobs.

I posted this question for any data one could offer me and if your keeping SPS corals like you said, why didn't you offer me then a selection of possible SPS corals to be interested in?

Just how long now were you keeping these SPS corals?

The benefits and possible downsides of ozone are just about the same for a fish system or a coral system.
I have yet to hear of someone with a consumer sized ozone generator that has had tank fatalities due to ozone. Most hobbyests run ozone in small amounts, and building the carbon caches is not hard at all.

Pros - kills pathogens, clears water, kills algae spores. All of these things are nice, but are not necessary.

Thales, for the time being as well in all this, I need to keep it as simple as I can and for the life of me, I not understand why would someone go so out of the way on a FO tank to have one of these. For as well in keeping these tanks and learning of the new species of corals I will keep, I still however have the one bigger job then these tanks, my grandchildren
My assistance be very much needed in the care for my younger grandchildren that the twins are 4.5 and their younger brother less then 3.5 of age.

You can just about figure that the kids do tend to give me a bit of a hard time, but when they see that when I tell them that they would get time out or as well, the palm of my hand were they sit, they do not wan that. As well the girl of the twins, she thinks that she be immune from spankings due to her beauty and I give her a wake up call to that idea by giving her a mild spanking, not so much on the playful side. They do tend to take me serious on that, lol

Also at fish world, I bend offered a job there, but my duties as they are now, are these kids, ,I told my lfs guy that once the kids are old enough and that im not called on as to just any time of the day for help with them, I wouldn't mind to work some at the store. I told him that if im still able to do things as I am today that I will after the kids had grown and then I would only do some three days a week. Also I wouldn't be able to accept money for as it is known, I cannot carry things to cars like a tank one buys or a 5 gals of RO water.

Far right now, the kids keep me pretty much busy :D And I might even help out there at the lfs even more then three days a week. But until for the time being, the idea is there, I only need to see what
happens with these kids. One of my bigger concerns be is if one of these kids will take to the hobby and take this tanks once im no longer able to maintain them myself.

So while the little wait goes on, im trying to get some idea of corals selections for both tanks. I know that a good number will not look exactly as the coloration that I might thought it be, but also on the net, many images do not do these corals any justice>
