Just got my tank up and running over the weekend (build thread to follow). I went with the CPR overflow (600gph version). Works great except for the VERY LOUD flushing sound...definitely working on my nerves after 3 days.
I have to change the prefilter configuration every so often to keep the noise at a minimum (which is still loud enough to wake the dead). Right now it is running w/o the prefilter sponge or plastic screen/airtube setup. I have a dvd case covering all but about 1/4" opening to further muffle the noise (still dang loud). I can't get the factory spec'ed setup to work right - no matter the height of the airtube it always makes a sucking noise like King Kong clearing his sinuses (nonstop).
I have a 50 gal tank being fed by a Quiet One 3000. Based on my head height, I figure I'm flowing close to 600gph. I've got the recommended air pump (Aqua LIfter) constantly running.
Is there a fix for this thing as-is, or should I invest in a durso standpipe or some other standpipe config? Anyone have any experience using these:
