About 230G of total water volume. I have an ASM G3 that I plan to do a recirculating and mesh wheel mod on. I figured that would be pushing it for 230G of water by itself. There is a local guy selling his AquaC EV120 with a mag9 for 170 bucks. Would it be worth it to jump on that and run it along with the ASM G3? Or just consider a new skimmer altogether for the new tank?

I'm having a hard time imagining what would happen if I used the ASM G3 alone on the 180G. Would it just pull more skimmate than usual because of the bioload or not pull enough?! :?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations and suggestions! :)

If it were my tank I would probably get some thing like a Euroreef CS250. That is what I run on my 150. I have about 170 gal total in my system.

Sorry it is the RS not CS modle. What you posted is the RC (recirculating).

The ER's a good choice. I do love the smaller size and efficiency of recirculating skimmers, though. Not sure if it's worth twice the $, but if you can find a used one, that would be the way to go

The new ER's come with venturi Eheims, now, which is an incredible bonus. Replacing those is a lot easier than replacing a Sedra.

Well, how about making a standard one into a recirculating? :)

ive seen a lot of ppl on boards that have successfully modded their skimmer to be recirc..

ive also seen many posts about ppl who have botched the project and crack their nice expensive skimmer.

I faced this same issue some months ago, and just went for the recirc from the factory.

BTW I purchased an octopus recirc and IMO its a GREAT deal for the $$ in comparison to some others. Its well made.. doesn't leak ( I know because I run it external from my sump, and is quiet).

Summary.. IMO if you want a recirc.. buy one.
