I have a well established 120 FOWLR (5 foot tank). Well over 120 lbs of LR and spot on parameters. Current inhabitants include a young majestic angel (around 4 inches), a black back butterfly, pair of ocellaris clowns, sankey's dottyback and a pair of yellow tail blue damsels. I'm looking to add one of the Ctenochaetus sp tangs, sold as a blue eyed kole tang. The lfs has had the fish for well over two months and I have observed the fish on several ocassions. Very healthy, good appetite, etc.. While my angel is pushy, the tang is currently a bit larger, and I'm thinking could hold it's own. I believe this particular fish isn't going to much exceed 6-7 inches in length and I've wanted a surgeonfish for awhile now. This would be the last fish in the tank. Workable? Bad idea? I usually have pretty good intuition when it comes to stocking but would like some opinions on this one.
TIA

Sounds like Ctenochaetus binotatus. They make peaceful and hardy additions if you start with a disease free individual. I'd QT it just to be on the safe side. I doubt you'll have many long term aggression issues with the angel and tang.

Thanks Matt. Yep, the fish will be quarantined. I'm also in the process of adding some more rock so plan to do this right before placing the tang in the DT to offset the angel's territory a bit.
Appreciate your insight.

This is your angel, right? Great fish for a large reef tank, IF they don't snack on the corals you like. They don't get too big and are fairly peaceful as angels go.

Yeah, that's the one. Mine's still a juvi. Almost complete adult coloration but still some tell tale marks of a young fish. I've heard they are one of the better angels for a reef, which is good if I ever decide to convert, but I like my butterflies and other non reef friendly fish too much. My majestic is not nasty but does chase the bf at times. I like this fish as it was the type of "large" angel I can keep for the duration. IMO, the colors are second to none.

Update; I bought the tang and he is doing great. Eating some prepared food but grazes off the glass and rocks continually. Very active thus far in the QT. Continues to show good health. Looking forward to adding him to the display. While I normally QT for three weks, I may cut this one down to two simply because I've been watching this fish for so long and it has never given me cause for concern. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself. 8O

Good! Every tank needs a funky tang!

Maybe a photo when he gets in the big tank?
