I'm moving in with my girlfriend and we have both well water and city water available for use.

Does anyone out here use well water for their tank? I have an RO/DI unit I use for filtering the water and I run a UV sterilizer. Does anyone see a problem here?

Should I have the water tested before I try and use it? I can use city water, it's no problem but where I'm locating the tank has a water outlet (on well water) close by and it would be very convenient to use this outlet.

What are your thoughts?

I would test the well water to make sure there is no nasty in there if I want to use it for potable purpose, but with RO/DI, it is fine for the fish tank. UV after the RO is pretty much as waste of energy, but for some labs, that's what they do.

We are on a well, and our water has lower TDS out of the tap than our city water did when we lived 5 miles away. I still use RO/DI before it goes into my tank though

Well water.

It is fine most of the time, in most areas. Getting it tested is the only way to know.

However, no water goes into my tank without being filtered, first the whole house filter which is basically a softener, and sediment filters, then it goes through the drinking water filter system (ozone injection/cyclonic, 1 micron sediment pre-filter, .5 micron solid carbon block filter, UV light)

Pretty much nothing gets by.
