I am just curious how high other reefers keep fixtures above their tanks in relation to K rating, wattage, tank depth and gallons and type of corals.
For example:

120G tank @ 24" deep
mixed reef, mostly SPS
two 250 watt lumen arcs 10K DE reeflux (was running 14K phoenix)
supplemented with 330W VHO actinics
My bulbs are approx. 16" above the tank. the glass covers are at 10 inches.

anyone else?

My VHOs must be about 4 inches from the water surface on the 75G (20" deep).

The 175W 15k Iwasaki (bulb itself) must be about 6 inches maybe a little more above the water surface on the temporary 25G frag tank. Glass from Lumenarc Mini itself is about 2 inches or so. Should be the same when the permanent frag tank is up (40G breeder - 16" deep).

I plan to keep the 400 watters (in Lumenarc IIIs) on the 210G (30" deep) closest to the water surface as possible. Probably the same as the frag tank. Maybe an inch or two higher. But I also plan to be able to raise them and lower as necessary. ;)

I've run mostly 150 watt and 250 watt DE pendents and prefer having them about the 8"-10" (measuring to the shield) above the water so I don't have to wipe the shields too often.

My 250 DE pendants are 6"-8" above the water, the VHO are about 5" above the water.
