Pocillopora bailouts :(

So, today, I decide to actually pay attention to my tank. It turns out my peppermint shrimp is missing (likely dead from old age), and now I have Aiptasias again. That's not really a big concern as I'm just going to buy more shrimps (and throw a few in my sump since Aips are growing down there too).

What's really annoying is that my Pocillopora apparently has done mass polyp bailout, and now I have 1" colonies ALL over the tank. I'm going to have to go and kill each by hand :? I estimate about 100 tiny colonies. If only 1) they all bailed on frag plugs and 2) people actually buy Pocillopora sp.

Sorry about the vent Pocillopora owners beware!

same thing is happening to mine. i noticed 4 small globs in different places. i was thinking "was it glued to that rock before or something?" i kind of lost track with the tank move and rearranging the rock, but then i saw 4 globs...it surely wasn't glued to 4 rocks in the other tank 8O
i'm just glad it's not 100.

I believe this is behind Louey's decision to move house. Better to leave and burn the place to the ground then try and fight them.

After you cut the colonies off, you need to bury the remaining base in epoxy and superglue.

That keeps them from coming back about half the time. The more epoxy/glue you use, the better your chances of killing it.


Get on top of it now, or you'll really be pissed later.

Be careful not to put too much epoxy in your tank at one time, unless you do a water change. I used 3 sticks once and lost some corals about a month later. I'm not sure of that caused it, but it might. It would probably do best if you used one stick then waited a week before adding any more. Run carbon and skim heavy.

I like Poccillopora too. I just don't like it when they sprout all over the place.

Louey, I plan to kill the sprouts because breaking them off is too much work and often impossible to do where they have sprouted. I'll be using NaOH to burn the tissues off, just like I do with Aips.

Thiago, I'd actually prefer a Aip infestation. There are known predators for them
