Last night, while feeding my fish, I noticed some protein buildup on the surface of the water.
I adjusted some powerheads around and gave the overflows a good old scrubbing down to increase the water flow (sometimes, I'll get some algae growth that clogs the narrow slits). That did the trick, water flow increased and started to suck the protein through the "guts" of the tank where the skimmer is.
It was at that time that I noticed that my phosphate reactor had somehow shot all of its media into my refugium. Everything is now coated with a nice layer of media.
I'm trying to figure out how to get it all out without sucking out a considerable amount of tube worms, pods, bristle worms, macro algaes, blah..blah..blah.
In the long run, would there be any harm in keeping it in there? Do the phosphates eventually leach back out of the media??
Thanks,
Eboman
