Foreward:

Yes Seamaiden this thread is for you :D Thanks for the help and encouragement. You too X.

I don't know about you guys but my other hobby is Micro RC's and 1/10th scale RC's. The other day I was in a r/c store and I came across this little guy. Its about 2 inches at its biggest and 1.5 inches wide. Similiar to those Zip Zaps. It is powered by 2 propellers and has a depth of a couple of feet. Its designed for pool or aquarium fun. My initial theory was to mount a small wirelss camera encased in watersealed piece of acrylic to the bottom of the craft.

I have one such camera that I would attach to my cars or planes. The end effect was to get a Intank fish eye view of your guys. Or just to play with them. When I tried it in my tank my clown fish kinda pushed it around the tank. When I tried it in my fresh water tank my cichlids pushed it into their "Cave" I wish I had a camera mounted on it then. I've tested the load capicity of the craft and it is just right for when I add the micro camera. It should only deter its manuverability a little. ( I weighed some clear marbles equaling the micro camera and taped them to the bottom of the sub and tested in my rubbermaid bucket.)

After checking that the craft didn't leak any oils and that the stickers were securely on and wouldnt "bleed color into the tank" I washed it carefully and tossed it in. btw the Craft has 3 LED's that you can activate. It looks cool in the dark hehe.

here are some pics. and video

VERY cool. I can just imagine a tank-ful of Africans goin' to town on that little baby. I remember many, many years ago, I had an issue of FAMA magazine (anyone else remember that mag?) and in the back where they had all the ads there was one ad for personal submarines. $100K bought you a two-person sub capable of something like 500' depth, and $400K bought you a SIX-person sub. Had to go to Florida to get them, and don't think it didn't cross my mind. ;)

I'd love to see that thing in some of the big display tanks at places like Long Beach Aquarium or Monterey Bay.

Edited to add: ROFL! Put that thing in a tank full of ADULT Africans and you may not get it back.

I love African cichlids. They're about the closest thing to salties in terms of color and activity, yet they're about the hardiest freshies I've ever kept. Dave doesn't really like them, though, and if we ever do a tank together we've agreed we'd both like to try Discus. Of course, we can't agree on how to keep them, so we'll probably only ever have a pond.

I love my africans. They are one of the most amazing fishies to watch. As babies I get them to eat from my hand and nibble my fingers when I feed them. I have some beautiful ones that will turn into some great fish when they are older. I'm currently searching for an Identical Corner OAK wedge tank like my saltwater tank to put them + 5 or 6 peacocks in there. In the mean time i got a few danios keeping them busy chasing them all over. They only stop the chase to eat or play with my sub. I've been feeding them new life spectrum and brine shrimp bathed in color enhancers and vitamins. The love it and as a result their colors are POPPING even at such a young stage. Extremely vibrant blue, yellow, reds, oranges are on all of my fish. When I compare them to those I see at LFS my fish look like Show fish. I had them since they were Fry's and been feeding them new life spectrum ground up into a powder and then as sinking pellets as juvies.

You can try to look for used ones. Maybe there are clubs within your area, and you can try craiglist as well.

Tunze equipment is famous for exceeding expectations. Which is why the stuff, though expensive is better in the long run.
