I'd like to find out how much an Oceanic RR 70 gallon weighs empty. Less than 90 lbs? Dims: 36" x 18" x 24" tall. Thanks!

If you know the thickness of the glass, and the density of the material.... ;)

Yeah. Then I wouldn't have needed to post, would I?

My calculation assuming 0.25" glass, and 2600kg/m^3, I get 76 lbs. Sound reasonable?

Seems a little too light, my 75 certainly felt heavier than 90 lbs.

Just curious - why do you need to know the empty weight?

Because I only need a stand burly enough for the empty tank alone.

Even the piece of crap coffee table that we're about to trash, which I can easily collapse with a swift kick will hold that empty tank.

The point is, anything you build intelligently should do just fine.

Yes. Why are using a RR tank to put flowers in?

Because:

1) I got an incredible deal on this tank.
2) I need a tank to put my flowers in.
3) If I settle down and decide to once again subject myself to the OCD hypertensive hell that is me trying to grow corals, this tank will be perfect. By then hopefully I will have a greenhouse for the flowers.

Questions?

Uh, the comments list the max load as 88 pounds 8O

Which is why I asked. :D

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were considering using it as a reef tank

This thread should be Sumped! :x

I think all you need is put a piece or two of solid wood to reinforce the platform on the top, and you should be fine. Just make sure it does not touch water.

That little table will hold it fine if you are doing orchids. Offhand I'd guess the tank empty is 75 - 80lbs?

Can you really trust anything from IKEA? Really? :P

When you build it. Use some wood glue on every joint as you go and wipe the excess off with a damp towel. That will help to increase its strength even more. If you do that you will likely need a slegde hammer to get it apart.
