I hope you all can help. I read the other thread on suncorals and I have been doing just all that (nearly daily feedings) and the coral has been beautiful for 6-8 months. Now, all of a sudden, it appears to be falling apart. Still eating but big chunks coming out, like it is dissolving. I did move it, then moved it back.. Same sheltered light area, moderate and varied current. I did add 2 arrow crabs in the last 2 weeks but they did not seem to care about the coral and are eating out of my hand anyway. I also added another soft coral (chili pepper coral) but it is at least 18 inches away and is not putting out anything. Monthly water changes, good parameters. Good filter and euro reef protein skimmer. Everything else is thriving save the firefish that disappeared after it went into the sump and the overflow twice!!!! Please help if you know what is happening.

Are you adding any additives to the tank? The Sun Coral may be missing some key elements like Ca, Sr, Mg, or too low of a pH or alk.

I'd also observe it at night to make sure nothing is attacking it. Look for the crabs, but also look out for worms. A red colored light is best to observe things without alerting them.

What is the water in the tank testing at? Sg, temp, nitrates, etc...
