Starting a new tank

Well I am starting up my 58 oceanic rr again. So far I have a lot of the gear Ive had around the house, I am setting it up for sps.

Lighting will be 2 x 400 watt MH in PFO hoood 2 x 36 watt pc actinics.
My skimmer is a Euroreef Recirculating I think the RC-135
I have a Shuran jetstream calcium reactor
1/10 hp chiller and dual medusa controller
Spectrapure liter meter topoff unit
Water movement I have a vortech I plan to use with some typical powerheads behind the rocks
I have a dolphin pump for the return for now since my ehiem started shocking me


I guess thats the gist of the equiptment I might have forgotten something,

In anycase my paranoid self is scared to use real lr and tired of using lr anyhow. Whats my best alternative to using live rock. I am not about to make my own, Im done with that too lol.

I was thinking of getting a bunch of the fake lr from natures image, or the dry rock from caribsea. The problem I have with the carisea stuff is, it is so heavy.

Or am I just being crazy and i should just order a box of lr?

Oh and I have a sulphur denitrifier I plan to use. The tank will be set up to keep the detritus suspended and be a BB setup.

I have never really liked caribsea rock. Have you ever seen marco rock?

I had some caribsea stuff and didnt like it either the marco rock looks nice though. Maybe I should order that, thanks for the lead.

Funny reading this - I may be setting up the same tank soon and was thinking the exact same thing. :wink:

I was thinking about the marco rock. Also, the stuff from BRS looked good:

For a tank that size I was thinking the small (25#) box would be plenty...

Cool thank you for the link Chris. Now I have soem options lol but this rock looks much better, and lighter then the other stuff Ive seen.

Then Ill quarantine everything going into this tank and keep my fingers crossed I never have to deal with any unwanted pest.
