I got a new stylophora frag today and when inspecing the base I saw some brownish stuff, and the bottom of the piece had a bit of die off so I snapped it off and the inside of the branch has this stuff, There is some further up the branchs that have health tissue as well but I dont know what this is. I did just give it a TMPCC bath before the photo so the browning might be abit becuase of this, but the inside of the branch is soft. Seems weird to me but what do you think?

Maybe its just some of the TMPCC wicked into the center of the skeleton but is that a normal look for the inside of a stylo?

THat is deffinately not a good looking coral skeleton. I would quarentine that and immediately contact whomever you got it from and figure out whats going on.

Well the brown color was definatly just wicked up TMPCC, but the inside was soft, further up where the coral had healthy tissue the skeleton was less soft. I think I may be paranoid over nothing, I mostly deal with acros thats arnt so thick.

I have a couple large stylo colonies and have to frag them often due to their weedy nature. Typically the thicker parts require my dremel to cut frags because the skelelton is far too dense for frag shears. IMO that is a diseased colony.

Edit: OK so maybe not diseased, but not healthy. After posting this I went out and fragged a branch and there is a bit of the center that appears to have pores and would take on the color of the TMPPC but if its that soft though Id assume that it may not have been healthy in the tank it came out of.
