I just fired up these halide pendants tonight. They both are 250de 14k hamilton bulbs. The one on the left is a magnetic ballast, and the one on the right is an electronic. I have them at 9 and 10 inches above the water line. I kinda feel they should be closer to the water line?? I am planning to try to grow some sps stuff.
Any suggestions from someone with a sim. tank??

um, what reflectors and what sized tank? My glass on my lumenarc minis is about 5" above the water.

The light on the left is an aquamedic(top pic), and the one on the right(bottom pic) is a hello-lights DIY pendant.

you will need to try different heights because it is a different reflector. it is hard to say without trying. you can always have one lower and one higher and keep more light loving corals on the brighter side.

Agree fungia, also noticed quite a difference between the looks of the magnetic and electronic ballast. I looks like the magnetic ballast burns the bulb brighter? Or maybe it is just the reflector??? Both bulbs are identical 14k hamiltons.
