Do any of you using these end up with marticals of carbon in your sump? For some reason w/e I change my carbon some floats whcih drive me nuts and the sponges that come with the reactor let by particals of carbon. I use finer carbon, I was using Bornemans carbon and recently switched to ROX .8 or w/e its called. I rinse the stuff well and try ro run the reactor slow but no matter what some floats up in teh reactor and works its way past the sponge and into my sump.

Anyone else have this issue?

yeh, I had the same issue using GFO. I am using a phosban reactor with a little cheap pump. I ended up putting a very fine media bag around the discharge of the outlet hose. Works very well catching any stuff.

I just set one up for the first time, too. Haven't had this problem, and my GFO is super tiny.

However, I run about 4 gallons of water through it first to remove dust and debris before running it inline.

God I really need to prrof read what I type...

Anyhow I maybe just pushing to much gph through but it seems like some carbon I use floats at first and some floats up and is pushed through the sponge and into my sump which isnt elevated so cleaning it is a PITA.

What I have found with my phosban reactor is as the GFO tumbles for a couple of weeks, the GFO grinds itself up into very small particles which usually work their way through the sponge. I have also noticed as the bottom sponge gets contaminated(detrious ect.)the water pressure pushes it up to the top of the cly. Kinda a pain. Has anyone used any of those new in the sump reactors?
