I wanted to see what everyone thought about the Octopus Extreme/MSX line of skimmers. They look great and the pumps they use are awesome. Supposedly they can get 40-50 schf out of the box. I'm thinking about upgrading to the 160 or 200.

Looks like a real nice design on those skimmers. I have to admit I am getting frustrated with my new ATI BM200. Twice it has flooded the cup and dumped the skimmate back in the tank, and yesterday for no reason the pump stopped and I had to take it out and wiggle it around to get it going again. The ATI's use the same pumps as the new octopus extreme, Sicce's. I dont know if they have the same issues on the Octopus extremes though. I might sell my new ATI, and my old euro-reef and get a bubble master, since I have heard no complaints about the red dragon pumps. Ill give the new ATI a few more weeks to impress me.

you mean buy a bubble king? those are the skimmers that use red dragon pumps.

i have heard about the sicce pumps getting caught from time to time and i'm sure it would happen with the msx as well.

I have had the same problem with my sedra 5000 as well, with my ASM G3. All it takes is a little snail or sand to get caught in the wrong spot and they will all dump the cup. However, some will do it less than others.

Yeah, sorry meant Bubble king.

My euroreef uses a sedra recirculating pump and it overflowed the cup occasionally as well, but it was like once every month or two at the most. I have been running the BM with the Sicce for only a few weeks and it has done it twice. I may just be angry at it right now so I'll give it a few more weeks and see how it performs. I have a G3 in my closet as well with a mesh modded impeller, guess I could sell all three lol.

just for information.. I picked up a Euro Reef RC6-2+ and it is TOTALLY better than the octopus recirc 150 I had. the froth.. (yes FROTH) is not even in the same ball park.

I paid $350 for the thing new from ebay. IMO the best reef purchase Ive made in quite a while.

The Octopus skimmer ARE well made, but the pumps... well... suck in comparision.

If you can spare just a few extra bucks get the real deal and stear clear of the octopus.

if i'm not mistaken, the msx skimmers use a modded pump(meshwheel). supposed to be pretty decent.

i still like my euro-reef and ASM skimmers though.
