My A. ocellaris pair seem to be doing well in my tank. The female is getting bigger, and now is about 50% larger than the male. She also have a round belly, which makes me believe she is full of eggs. I heard that some clown fish pair spawn every other week. Is there anything that I need to do during spawning period?

I am not a peeping tom.

What is the chance of seeing the eggs hatched and have some the larvae survived without intervention from my part? Or the chance is so small that they will just end up as skimmate in the cup? Besides the clowns, the only other fish there in the 150 gals is a mandarin fish, some LPS, SPS and softies. As you can tell, I am not much of a fish guy.

The eggs are stuck to a rock or other hard surface and protected pretty vigorously. I can see them going along until hatching without a problem, and the larvae become part of the food web.

I guess I am not showing my boys the eggs, since it will be a bit upsetting to them.

EDIT: Or do I use this opportunity to show they what will happen if the parents do not take care of the kids?

My sons clarkiis finally started breeding before he wiped out his tank. They layed eggs on the back of the tank regularly and once I got to watch them in action before he killed them all. The larvae won't make it. It you have interest in raising a few for fun it might be a good project for you to do with the kids. You just need to raise some phyto to feed some rotifers you raise and feed the rotis to the larvae tank you would have to set up. A 10 gal tank for larvae and a 5 gal for rotis and some 2 liter bottles for the phyto. Joyce Wilkerson wrote a book called clownfish thats a good read and would teach ya what you would need to know to raise them.

I don't think I have time for the task until the kids got older. I am a bit worried about getting a clownfish in the first place, and so far, it is not too bad. The tripling of the fish bioload (from one fish to three fishes) on my tank really get my algae to grow, and I need to do something about it soon.
