Hello all,
Appreciate any tips for adding LS to an 4 year old established tank. I want to add the sand without making such a cloudy mess.

Tip 1: You will always make a mess so just relax and enjoy doing so

Tip 2: Turn off all pumps and powerheads if you don't well enjoy a mess

Tip 3A: Use a plastic cup from anywheres thats clean, fill 2/3's with sand

Tip 3B: Fill rest of cup with water slowly from tank by submerging it, push now full cup to location and pour out sand where you want

Repeat.

You can also use a large diameter piece of PVC that reaches the bottom of the tank and pour wet sand by the cupful down the pipe. It's slow, but it works well.

When I used this method years back there was no sand flying around, but the tank became cloudy. It settled by the next day.

I forgot the real trick-you gotta presoak the sand for several days to get the fines saturated
