So, I'm just sitting here, and all of a sudden the thing decides to make a racket! Anything I can do to help it, or do I just go out and get another one?

I tried re-seating it...still rattling away...kinda of annoying now.

It's for my little 10-gallon fresh water tank that I have in my office.

Well, I was thinking about grabbing a bat and stuffing it ....

I didn't want to post up there because it's a fresh water filter... probaly the lowest end eheim...I might just go out and buy a new one tomorrow...it was really cheap, but worked great! - it was always very quiet, until just now..
