This is probably going to sound really stupid to a lot of you guys, but I'm a little worried because I'm not getting any algae growth. It's been 2 maybe 3 weeks since I've wiped my glass and there's still almost no algae growth on it. The one side of the tank that I've never wiped is even showing less algae than it had before, sorta like it's dying off. Clean up crew is just a few blue leg hermits, my turbos passed away in the main tank but the ones in the fuge are still alive. This is the main tank.

In the fuge however, the turbos are alive and there's algae on the glass. Just a little confused as to why I guess.

By the way, there's no skimmer on the tank, no phosban, no carbon, no anything. Just LR and a little chaeto that's been sitting in the fuge.

Fish are a pygmy angel and a royal gramma, both are small. Maybe 50lbs of LR for about 50gallons of water.

I don't really know what I'm asking but I just thought it was weird. Any reason why this would happen?

I"m lost and really tired but are you saying that algae is growing in your fuge but not in your display and you want to know why.............

because it's working!
Good job and way to pull of a skimmerless tank!

Don't worry it will come ..

Algae? I doubt it, maybe a little here and there but I haven't had any algae problems at all. The tanks a little over 6 months old. No hair algae, cyano, no nothing. Not saying it can't happen, i just think if I keep things the way they are I shouldn't have any algae problems. Two tiny fish in 50g's of water, I guess that helps.

Thanks Fred LOL Sometimes I be's stupids tooo

T, I just woke up lol after i realized how stupid I sounded..

Scu...it coulda been  LOL

Krisen,

Any interesting proposition - I finally have the opportunity to share something I observed happening to my system with someone who has seen it too.

As you know, my 180 had a 29g fuge packed with chaeto and all other fuge goodness. I attached a 16g frag tank that looked spectacular for a long time. Over time, though, I noticed some string algae growing in the frag tank. Some time later, that algae started growing out of control and eventually completely took over the frag tank to a point where I had to take it offline and soak it in vinegar.

During that time, the chaeto in my fuge was decreasing in size and color and eventually was down to a small ball about the size of 2 full snowballs.

My hypothesis is nothing new to the pruposes of fuges but what got me me interested was how the control algae source moved from one tank to the next (and even more so, why not to the display).

So, in answering your question above - I think that when algae thrives, it takes away from where it would likely happen, so, it seems to be working exactly how you planned. When the heavy film starts forming on your glass is where I would beging to worry as the location of where the algae absorbs nutrients is changing?

Just one reefers experience.
