temp probe

hey guys....my AC3 temp probe failed and neptune systems are on vacation till monday. i was away last weekend and when i got home i found my chiller on......normally it doesn't kick on in the winter months, i checked the temp from my wireless thermometer and it read 63.3 degrees. when i looked to the AC3, it was telling me my tank was 120 degrees. i manually shut down the chiller and figured let the tank warm back up slowly with the lights.....i then turned the heater on manually but i have no control over it because it is on the AC3. i been trying to keep the tank stable at around 75 degrees.....is this a safe temp to run ?

this exact thing happened to me but thankfully I didn't have a chiller but it killed my lights and my heater because it thought the temp was 120. So my temp dropped off but not like yours. I don't know what kind of experience you have had with Neptune but they told me since it had been longer than three months (only a few weeks more) I was out of luck and had to order a new one. Thats complete bull, what kind of product lasts 3 months, I have had troble with their moon lights too. All and all, I have not been very happy with Neptune at all. Hope you have had better luck.

Do yourself a favor and order 2 so that you have a spare when this inevitably happens again.
My temp probe on an AC3 went out after a year but my original Reefkeeper has had no problems for over 3 years. I've told Curt that wherever he's getting his temp probes from, they are an unreliable product based on all the negative problems in the Neptune forum. Curt swears that every user that has had a problem has intentionally or unintentionally bent/crimped the wire. Yeah, okay then

i just got off the phone with neptune systems and they are going to replace the temp probe free of charge. i been researching and found a lot of ppl having temp probe problems......i still think it is a good product, what product today doesn't have any sort of problems?.. but i will get a spare probe for the future.

I haven't encountered this issue yet, but I suggest adding an alarm email/txt message so that you get notified if the parameters are out of whack.

Also, because of this common problem, I have it so that neither my heater or chiller are on if the temp is lower than 70 or higher than 85. If it is outside of that range, then I figure it is an equipment problem and not reality.

Thanks for bringing this up Nate!! I'd read it was good to set the program to shut off the heater & chiller if the numbers went above or below an outside range..but couldn't recall the circumstance.

This is also great advice for folks with an AC Jr that doesn't have the option to get an alarm/email message.
