eggcrate is good. even with a hood fish will get out.

I just lost a dispar anathias the other day, one was missing and I found her dried up
on the side of the tank inside the hood. my tank has one side of the hood open to allow the return to come up and over the side of the tank. that really sucked.

I also lost a bird wrasse once in a QT that had every part covered in eggcrate except for a few inches where the filter tubes came in. somehow this very large fish found that very small hole and jumped out of the tank into an empty salt bucket. I felt sick when I found him like that.

if you cover your top with eggcrate make sure it's as tight as can be. I still feel bad when I think of the fish that have jumped out of my tank. with some good planning you can prevent this, the worst they might get are some bruised fins and a headache.

I lost my lawnmower blenny like this. Dude jumped out, found him 3 days on the floor underneatht the stand. I have a light carpet, now there is an imprint of fish scales where he was.

that happened to a large snowflake eel I had years ago. he stuck to the carpet and left a ring on it, so sad :(

thanks alot
but wont think fish like gobies and blennys be able to git throught the squre hole in the eggcrate.
should i just be sure and get the glass hood. wats so bad about a glass hood that would prevent me from using it?

Glass tops are notorious for bad air exchange, basically your tank cant breathe and expel gases as needed, evap goes down and dosing anything by ATopoff will be useless. If you have a sump its ALRIGHT but you really want as much air exchange as you can have (PH issues galore)

You buy eggcrate at home depot, its the stuff that home fluorescent lighting has as paneling, make sure you get white plastic, no metallics
