Should I use check valves?

I read a post or 2 in here saying do not use check valves..I was just wondering why you wouldn't want to ?

They get stuck after a little while and can cause a flood.

So I am better off running my system without...I guess if the sump can handle the siphon I will be ok ...

I know Im a beginer but I was also told to stay away from check valves.

the thing I didn' like about them is you lose some flow Just make sure when everything shuts down the sump can take all the water that siphons down

yeah, they tend to leak after a while which is why people say stay away from them. they reduce flow pressure also. You need to clean them out every 2 months to make sure they keep working right.

They do work though, and even when dirty and leaking the flow through them is still a trickle. I use one for when i do water changes as it avoids me turning a ball valve or do some fancy stuff with my return locline to break a siphon.

If you do get one make sure its the full union one with the rubber flap inside and not the ball check valve.
