well another swap come and gone and another 1 i missed.not because of the monsoon of last year but because of the economy.i am laid off right now and would have loved meeting every one and having a good time but i would have wanted to buy some cool stuff for my new setup.im still 50 lbs short of live rock so im saving up for that and need a carbon reactor as well.so no new corals for me.anyone else stay home due to the economy crisis or am i the only one

This economy has touched every single person I know. I am sorry to hear you got laif off. I wish you and your family the best during this tough time. It really is scary what is taking place. I have been at work all day today and not one thing has walked through that door!

Try and think positive and have a good holiday!

sorry to hear that Duke. i also missed the swap, more or less due to the economy. Since this hobby requires lots of funds, i've been putting strict monthly budgets on every purchase so I opted to slow down on coral purchases and saving up for equipment purchases which will require more money.

Hopefully I can go to next years swap.

Considering I will spend every penny I have until there is nothing left at a place like that... we didn't go. Bad time of year, bad economy (I also got the boot from my job but will be returning by months end thankfully)-- it was either another bucket of salt some more phosban and regular maintenance items or attending the swap for this month.

A few months ago there were many tanks for sale threads and people bailing out on the hobby because of tightening their belts. Seems as if that is just going to continue for a while.

Though I still try and spend money on corals and things regardless... I'd hate for the few shops that are actually great to feel it so much that they close their doors. But the swap held far too much temptation (not to mention C had to work--typically he would have turned it down if we had plans, but more recently neither of us turn down any job anytime--and will cancel plans).

yeah like i said my setup is in dire need for at least 40 lbs of rock and carbon reactor so i need to save up for that.the corals and fish is third in line for importance.this economy sucks.thank goodness my wife is working and i have that great 405 in unemployment.i dont understand there are many other states with a higher unemployment rate then ny it just doesnt make any sense.and why is it that unemployment is taxed.its an insurance policy that ive been paying into for 15 years.if i was in a car accident i wouldnt pay taxes on insurance money to fix my car.

There is another swap planned for the spring time. If you missed this one you will have another chance come then. I hope and I pray things get better, I missed seeing some people! I also hope you all get called back soon as well.

Well, for one thing, I had my weekends mixed up..thought it had been the previous weekend...but doesn't really matter, as I wouldn't have made it anyway. I dare not make it into the vicinity of a reef sales area...due to the reality that I might purchase something. I'm down to only 2 fish in my 55 gal tank....I only added a clam last month because it was a replacement....and I still have my job (my sympathies to Duke and all the others...)...but I really can't afford anything to add to my tanks these days. I still have to pay for upkeep...like Ca supplements and a replacement for my bum heater. The holidays will not make it better, nor the fact that my wife lost funding for her position at Queens College...she still has her job, but as an adjunct. I think it will be a while before I make any livestock purchases.
