Run a lot of carbon (at least 1lb) to help reduce smell. If the skimmer is not the only source of the stink check the sand bed in your refugium (if you have one). If the refugium sand bed stinks, I suggest you remove it.

Justin, there are many DSB advocates on this board and many boards...no offense house ;) I am not one of them. I would go BB everything.

Justin what are the specs of your system?

Jackson,

None taken! Bad smell is not uaully a good thing - identify it right away. I will get a little fishy smell once in awhile, but usually only after I have left water changes to over a month between them.

You might also want to increase your clean up crew to include sand sifters (snails) and perhaps add flow to get to those hard to reach places where things can sit and rot.

I personally would go with a combination of sand and miracle mud for a refuge, but that's me. There are benefits to both and this hobby is not a cut and rry as accounting (sorry to those accountants out there).
