I know quite alot of people have had bad experience wiith these so call bubble aglae eatting emerald crabs. But I thought I got some good one.. Until in the past few months, I have always noticing that some of my sps have been loosing up tips here and there. Don't know why.. I was thinking it could be the snail bumping into them or forcing there way across and broke a piece here and there. It was doing it to my less beauitful sps, hehe.. Until it start clipping my ora tort and gomezi...It must stop there.

You know you wait like 6 months for the tort to finally start growing and this stupid crab starting clipping my damn tips away..

So last night I finally spotted him on the top of a rock in night. I was waiting patiently with all light close.. heheh.. With a little helper, the flash light.. I slowing pin him down with my index finger and was trying to put him out.. But I was wrong... He is a tough little crab.. He was grab onto the rock real tight and as I try to put him out, he kept on clipping me with the claw. Ouch.. It does hurt a little, but I was determine to get him out. I aint' letting him get out of my hand.. During the 15 minutes fight with him, I was at one point trying to break his damn claws with my finger.. Twisting and bending, but to no avail.. I was tired and saying its enough.. I pulled very hard holding onto his claws and was expecting either he come off or his claws. :sgrin:

Thats when he finally let go and I almost broke my T5 bulbs on the canopy when he let go..

What a battle... Those most battle I had done with my tank so far.. It was a victory nonetheless. :D

Now where is the emerald crab? Don't worry, I didn't kill him.. After all, I think he MIGHT clean up some bubble algae for me.. So I let him leave. He is in my sump.

John, I remember you got some in your tanks, but be careful..

PS: I might bring him out and torture him from time to time when I'm bore :joke: ..hahah..

Other than the bubble algae you mentioned, what other kinds of algae do you have for the emerald to eat? Eating bubble algae is hit or miss with emerald crabs, just like reef safe dwarf angels and aiptasia-eating peppermint shrimps.

Dean

p.s. Bring him tonite if you're going to the Halloween Madness sale on S.I. I'll gladly save him from your sump.

I had a heck of a time getting my emeralds out when I was going to dose the tank for red bugs. I could not believe how strong they could hold onto the rocks.

for the record mine don't eat anything that I care about. sometimes I see one picking at my large pocilipora colony. I do see them constantly picking at the rocks, which is good :)

maybe he clean out all my algae in my tank to be honest. I don't have any algae at all. I once had the dreaded bysise (don't remember the correct spelling) aglae..

You really want to put him in? You're not gonna be able to get him out easily.. When he don't eating all the algae you gonna attack your sps.. But I think you dont' have a sps, right..:D Sure I could bring him to you tonight..

I'm gonna use a net.. not going to use my hand again.. hehe..

Jon, no sweat, they hold on really really tight...

Yeah, one of mine ate my Skunk Shrimp right after the Shrimp molted. And then - I suspect - attacked my Perc, leaving a small round wound. I managed to get him out without much problem and he's now in my sump. If anyone wants him, let him know. I don't want to keep keeping an eye on him in the sump.
