I think its called RTN? im not sure what causes this. I would do a search on Reef central. In the mean time frag off a piece thats un bleached. remove and QT the not so bleached. I have heard that this could also spread and affect other SPS in the tank. However make sure you check all the other paramitersas as well just to make sure, as it could also be something els.

Sam,

High nitrate can cause stress (bleaching) Also what is your other parameters ? (Alk and calcium levels) Cant give you a complete answer without those levels.

RTN has no cure and scientist have not been able to pinpoint exactly what causes it - stress and parameters are one of the most related factors when RTN is present - I have found that dosing my tank with Iodine is what works for keeping RTN at bay (for me) and keeping pristine parameters (with little fluxuation)is also a HUGE factor - ALK more specifically!

Keep an eye on the iodine, though, as it can poison your tank. I use Lugols Iodine and it works wonders.

I don't have a quarantine tank, and not much of sps at all so that probably won't be my concern for now. I just don't want to kill it, worst of all, if i don't see it get better, i'll just give it out to someone with a better establish tank.

My tank is probably not ready for caps yet. The cap is located on mid level. No sure if the light is the problem. I have no idea whether it's SE or DE.

Ph=8.0
Nirate =20
Nitrite =0
Ammonia=0
Calcium= ~500
Alk = 2.0 (try dosing, but my ph goes crazy, tried to increase the magnesium level but doesn't help)

If i don't see it get better in several days, who wants the frag?

Sam it your alk that is the problem. You need to get it up higher.

Depending on how big it is, I will hold it for you.

Thanks Kasie but i'll give it up,

When i drip alk....my ph goes down the hill. It'll probably take much longer for my nitrate to go to zero and i do not know how to fix the alklinity level...tried raising up the magnesium...didn't help. It's a four inch cap.....looks very nice before it got bleached. Kasie you can have it if you want it.....anyone want to take it off my hand, the faster the better, free. Thanks
