Sh!t, the 20lbs I put in my tank gave it an ammonia spike! my dori (blue hippo) lookin slow today, shes in one corner not movin at all. Comes out to eat the nori but tas about it. Going to fishtown right now to get some carbon, gonna run that for 48 hours. Ammonia is at 2 ppm. I took out 10lbs and put it in the curing vat. Any other suggestions guys?
I am going to be at fish town right now, so if you guys have any suggestions call me at 917-435-6372 so I can pick up the item. Thanks!

So you got an ammonia reading off the chart from bucket water and still put 20lbs of curing rock in a tank with fish sensitve as Blue Hippos?! :banghead: :sigh1:

I don't think carbon will do anything in regards to the ammonia. Do some water changes!!! And show some patience next time.

please tell us the hippo is still alive. you gotta figure there should of been alot of die off cause it was in transit for like 3 days. :( . hook up another tank if you dont have one get it going so your hippo has a chance at survival. looking at what you said hes moving slow. this is not a good sign. but an easy catch for you.

Ok guys, thanks for all the input, and yes I was very stupid for putting that much uncured rock in my tank so quickly. I took 10lbs out, and its in the curing vat. I went to fish town to ask them what to do, they gave me this ammonia eating thingamajiggy, which I put in the tank. Came out, checked the nitrate levels, they went from 2ppm to .50ppm. The blue hippo is back to her good ol' self again.
